California Micro Devices
Delivers the Smallest Packaged
EMI Filters for Wireless Handsets
CM1430 and CM1431 Bring High Performance
EMI Filters and ESD
Protection in 0.4mm Pitch TDFN
Packages
MILPITAS, Calif., -- June 30, 2005
-- California
Micro Devices (NASDAQ: CAMD) today introduced a new family of packaged
Centurion™ ASIP™
(Application Specific Integrated Passive™)
EMI (electromagnetic interference) filter arrays that feature superior
EMI filtering performance combined with robust ESD (electrostatic discharge)
protection in the most compact package available for use in mobile handsets.
The new Centurion™ CM1430 and CM1431 ASIP™
devices are packaged in a 0.4mm pitch TDFN package that produces space
savings of up to 42 per cent when compared to existing 0.5mm pitch TDFN
packages. With the adoption of higher resolution color displays and camera
imagers spreading to a larger segment of the handset market, there is
a growing need for EMI filters that offer higher cutoff frequencies while
providing a greater level of attenuation performance at the frequency
band of 800 MHz through 3.0GHz. The Centurion™ CM1430 and
CM1431 devices are the first packaged EMI filters that meet these exacting
requirements in a form factor fully optimized for use in space constrained,
mobile handset applications.
Key Features
The Centurion™ CM1430 and CM1431
utilize C-R-C pi filters with values of 8.5pF-100Ω-8.5pF and 15pF-100Ω-15pF
respectively corresponding to cutoff frequencies of 200MHz and 120MHz.
Their high cutoff frequencies make these products ideal for filtering
high resolution display and camera modules interfaces, which utilize data
rates up to 80Mbps. The CM1430 and CM1431 achieve attenuation of -25dB
and -35dB respectively, at 1GHz. The attenuation of both parts is -35dB
at 3 GHz. Both products feature flow through routing for each filter channel
which contributes to enhanced filter performance and ease of printed circuit
board (PCB) layout. Additionally, superior filter performance across all
channels is achieved through the large area ground pad on the bottom of
the TDFN package that minimizes parasitic inductance. In addition to filtering,
both products also provide ESD protection up to ±15kV contact discharge
per IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 specification. The Centurion™
CM1430 and CM1431 are both available in 4, 6 and 8 channel configurations.
Smallest EMI Filters Solutions in
TDFN Packages
With design trends toward more feature rich, multimedia capable and smaller,
thinner handset designs, board space for components has become increasingly
constrained. To address this, California Micro Devices has worked closely
with our assembly partners to develop a more space efficient, low profile
0.4mm TDFN package. In the 4 channel version, for example, the Centurion™
CM1430 and CM1431 require 42 percent less board space than competing filters
using popular 0.5mm pitch TDFN packages. For the 6 channel and 8 channel
versions, space savings of approximately 30 per cent are achieved. The
package dimensions of the 4, 6 and 8 channel versions are: 1.7mm x 1.35mm
(8 leads), 2.5mm x 1.35mm (12 leads) and 3.3mm x 1.35mm (16 leads) respectively.
Each of these packages is available in lead free finish.
Pricing and Availability
Samples of the Centurion™ CM1430 and CM1431 are available
now. Sample pricing ranges between $0.42 and $0.59 each in 1,000 unit
quantities, depending on the channel configuration. Production for both
families is scheduled for Q3 2005.
