CM1218 / CM1219
Low Capacitance Transient Voltage
Suppressors / ESD Protectors

Low I/O capacitance with a high level of ESD protection ideal for today's high-speed interface ports

Lead-free Solution

Product Overview
California Micro Devices introduces the CM1218 and CM1219 Low Capacitance Transient Voltage
Suppressors / ESD Protectors. These devices are ideal for providing a high-level of ESD protection on PC ports, USB ports, serial ports, parallel ports, IEEE1394 ports, docking ports and other proprietary ports. Their low-capacitance design insures minimal signal distortion in high-speed applications.

The CM1218 and CM1219 are available in two, three, four, five, or six channel configurations and in a wide variety of surface mount packages. All versions are available with optional lead-free finishing.

Product Features
The CM1218 and CM1219 feature low I/O channel capacitance which makes them suitable for high-speed ESD protection applications. The CM1218 features a channel I/O capacitance of 7pF typical with the CM1219 at a modest 4pF typical. Even with these low I/O capacitance characteristics, the CM1218 provides up to ±15kV of ESD protection using the IEC 61000-4-2 contact discharge method. The CM1219 offers lower channel capacitance and provides up to ±8kV of ESD protection using the IEC 61000-4-2 contact discharge method. Both families of devices utilize Zener diodes which eliminates the need for routing a positive voltage rail to the ESD protection device, as is required by competing dual rail clamp ESD devices. This simplifies board layout and reduces package size by eliminating the need for an additional pin.

Product Applications
The CM1218 and CM1419 are suitable for a number of ESD protection applications, including:

  • High-speed consumer electronic ports
  • ESD protection of PC ports, including USB ports,
serial ports, parallel ports, IEEE1394 ports,
    docking ports, proprietary ports, etc.
  • Protection of interface ports or IC pins which are
    exposed to high ESD levels

Sampling, Pricing and Availability
The CM1218 and CM1219 are currently sampling, and are priced between $0.23 to $0.52 each at 1,000 units, depending on number of channels and package. Volume production is scheduled for Q4 2004. Lead free versions are available as part of California Micro Devices’ efforts to provide environmentally friendly products to its customers.
