Introducing
CM1450/CM1451 Chip Scale LCD & Camera EMI Filter Arrays with ESD Protection
Praetorian® process technology integrates spiral inductors for unsurpassed EMI filter performance

Product Overview
California Micro Devices introduces the new CM1450/CM1451 family of EMI Filter Arrays with integrated ESD Protection, designed specifically for LCD and camera interfaces. These devices have been implemented utilizing California Micro Devices' Praetorian® advanced ASIP™ (Application Specific Integrated Passive™) process technology which integrates spiral inductors on the same substrate as resistors, capacitors and ESD protection devices. This innovative technology enables the design of very high quality, chip scale products that fulfill the challenging EMI filtering requirements of higher-speed data and imaging interfaces found in today's wireless handsets and cameras. By integrating inductors in lieu of resistors on the CM1450/CM1451 substrate, the patent-pending Praetorian® process delivers EMI filtering solutions that exhibit attenuation curve characteristics not attainable with other discrete or multilayer L-C or R-C filter products. In addition, these filters are available standard with CMD's high-voltage, low-capacitance electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.

CM1450 Spiral Inductors
The CM1450/CM1451 family offers industry leading EMI filter and ESD protection performance characteristics, including:

  • higher cutoff frequencies
  • minimal insertion loss
  • sharper roll-off
  • lower signal distortion
  • superior attenuation at high frequencies
  • ±15kV contact discharge ESD protection (per IEC61000-4-2 Level 4)

By utilizing Praetorian® process technology in these chip scale products, the CM1450/CM1451 offer high quality low cost, reduced form factor EMI filtering solutions along with robust ESD protection performance for today's high-speed LCD and camera interfaces.

Product Features
The CM1450 and CM1451 Praetorian® EMI filters with ESD protection are offered in space saving CSP (chip scale package) form factor. Both products are based on a 5-pole LC filter architecture (15pF-17nH-15pF-17nH-15pF and 10pF-17nH-10pF-17nH-10pF respectively), which attenuate signals by 35dB or better over a frequency range of 800MHz to 2.7GHz. For the frequency range of 3GHz to 6GHz, the level of attenuation is greater than 30dB. These new products are ideal for filtering high resolution display and camera modules interfaces with data rates between 120Mbps and 160Mbps) respectively. In addition, unlike RC filters, LC based filters do not significantly degrade signal rise times. They are available in 6 and 8 channel formats. In addition to filtering, both products also provide ESD protection up to ±15kV contact discharge per IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 specification.

Product Applications
Applications for these devices includes high-speed data ports, control lines, I/O ports and LCD interfaces typically found on today's wireless flip or clamshell handsets, handheld PCs and PDAs.

Availability
The CM1450 is sampling, and pricing starts at $0.85 each in 1,000 units for the six channel version. The CM1451 will be sampling later this month. Production for both families is scheduled for Q2 2005. Both products ship standard in a lead free CSP package featuring CMD’s OptiGuard™ coating for increased robustness and durability.
