CM3004 1 Amp Low Dropout Linear Regulator
CM3065 2 Amp Low Dropout Linear Regulator

Low cost power solutions for digital consumer and computing applications

Lead-free Solution

Product Overview
California Micro Devices introduces the CM3004 and CM3065 families of low dropout (LDO) regulators. These devices offer either 1 or 2 amps of output current with very low dropout voltage and very low ground current characteristics. Each of these devices operate in either fixed or adjustable output voltage* modes and are suitable for a range of applications including set top boxes, digital TVs, NIC cards and printers.

The CM3004 is supplied in a thermally enhanced 8-lead SOIC package and the CM3065 is available in a thermally enhanced 8-lead SOIC and a 3-lead TO-263 package. All devices are available with optional lead free finishing.

Product Features
The CM3004 delivers up to 1A of output current with a wide input voltage range of 1.7V to 5.5V whereas the CM3065 delivers up to 2A of output current with a 2.2V to 5.5V input operating voltage range. Both devices offer fixed and adjustable output modes which are configured via the ADJ input and an EN input which facilitates power-down or power-sequencing applications. These devices have been optimized to operate with low ESR output capacitors, reducing board space requirements.
Both families offer current limit and thermal overload protection and are fully protected from reverse current flow during shutdown.

CM3004 Features
The CM3004 has been optimized as a low cost solution for designs requiring power for system-on-chip circuits which typically operate from a low voltage supply rail. The CM3004 operates with an input voltage as little as 1.7 volts. It also operates with a dropout voltage of 250mV typical or 450mV maximum at the rated 1 amp output load current. In fixed output voltage mode, the CM3004 can operate at either 2.5V out (ADJ tied to ground) or 1.2V out (ADJ tied to OUT
). The CM3004 operates as an adjustable regulator by tying the ADJ input to an external resistor network. The CM3004 also features operation from a single supply rail, eliminating the need for a higher voltage VBIAS supply, simplifying layout and reducing power consumption.

CM3065 Features
The CM3065 features a wide input operating range of 2.2V to 5.5V while delivering up to 2.0A of current. Like the CM3004, the CM3065 operates as fixed or adjustable regulator, depending on the configuration of the ADJ input. When the ADJ input is tied to ground, the device operates in a fixed output mode at the specified output voltage of 1.8V or 2.5V. When the ADJ input is tied to the output pin (OUT), the devices operates as a 1.2V regulator. The ADJ pin can also be tied to an external resistor network, enabling adjustable output operation.

Product Applications
The CM3004 and CM3065 are suitable for a number of digital consumer and computing applications where space as well as performance are considerations. These include:

  • Low-voltage "Core" processor based designs
  • Set Top Boxes
  • Gigabit NIC Cards
  • PC Motherboards
  • Notebook Computers
  • Personal Video Recorders
  • Graphics Cards
  • DVD Players
  • Printers

Sampling, Pricing and Availability
