CM3018 Micropower, 150mA Low Noise CMOS Regulator with Fast Response
in Chip Scale Packaging (CSP)

Product Overview
California Micro Devices introduces the popular CM3018 150mA regulator now available in a tiny Chip Scale Package (CSP) form factor. The CM3018 5-bump CSP package is ideal for space critical applications, requiring 82% less board space that its 5-lead SOT23 counterpart and 50% smaller than a SC70 device. Ideal applications for this product include wireless handsets, MP3 players and digital cameras.

The CM3018 is manufactured as a chip scale packaged (CSP) device and is manufactured with Optiguard™ coating for greater durability. The CM3018 is available with preformed eutectic (63Sn/37Pb composition) or lead-free (96.8Sn2.6Ag0.6Cu composition) 0.30mm solder spheres for attachment.

Product Features

The CM3018 features quiescent operating current (100µA) that is 30% lower than competing solutions. With ten different (1.5V to 3.3V) fixed output voltages, the CM3018 in CSP is suitable for a variety of power management applications. The CM3018 in CSP offers the same operating performance as its SOT23 couterpart, handling loads up to 150mA while providing output voltages with tolerances of ±1%. The CM3018 features excellent line and load regulation, resulting in stable and accurate supply voltages required for today's chipsets. The CM3018 in CSP boasts low noise operation (35µVRMS over a frequency range of 300Hz to 100kHz) and a low Power Supply Ripple Rejection (PSRR) of 60dB at 1kHz when a 10nF bypass capacitor is utilized. With the bypass capacitor connected, the power-up sequence time is a fast 60µs, almost twice as fast as competing solutions. The CM3018 also features both thermal and current overload protection to protect the device and associated circuitry from damage.

The CM3018 in CSP incorporates a dedicated control input for power-up sequencing. When this input is taken low, the CM3018 enters a disabled state in which the supply current drops to nearly zero, making this devices suitable for portable battery operated applications.

Features of the CM3018 include:

  • 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 2.6V, 2.8V, 2.85V, 2.9V, 3.0V, 3.1V or 3.3V outputs
  • Fast (60ms) VOUT response when enabled
  • Ultra low noise (35mV rms typ.)
  • Very low dropout (150mV at 150mA)
  • Low quiescent operating current (110mA)
  • Stable with low-ESR ceramic capacitors
  • “Zero” disable mode current consumption
  • Thermal overload protection
  • Foldback overload current protection
  • 5-pin SOT23 and 5-bump Chip Scale Packages (CSP)
